Reconnecting with a Music Book of my Youth

I found this piano music book during my current phase of sorting through my books. I had not looked at it for many years. So I immediately took it to the piano and played through some of the pieces. Good memories. Back in my early teens, my older brother Douglas liked jazz, and had a Brubeck (vinyl) record. I listened to ‘Take Five’ and taught myself to play it. It was the first time I had played any sort of jazz on the piano. So that was what prompted me to get the above book back then.

The other memory is of a school ‘music camp’ I was sent on. I took the book. In a corridor, I started playing one of the pieces from it. A master told me to stop playing that music, since it was not classical music 😆

The transcriptions in the book are marvellous, and I plan to reconnect with some of them and maybe perform for friends.
