Carinhoso

Carinhoso is one of the most important works of brazilian popular music. It was composed by Pixinguinha between 1916 and 1917  and first recorded in 1928.

Pixinguinha is known as the composer who brought choro to its peak in Brazil and introduced it to popular acclaim in Europe. He helped begin samba, explored jazz and ragtime, discovered while performing in Paris, and added saxophone and brass instruments to the choro ensemble.

This piece, considered a popular anthem of Brazil, is one of the most re-recorded songs in the history of the national songbook.

I am continuing here my experimenting with writing improvisations on given choro pieces. The structure of Carinhoso is ABAB. I play the first AB as composed, then I add the improvisation in the second AB.
